Casinomeister News has reported on all of these developments, but the addition of some analyst comment on the major companies involved in moves toward internet and mobile gambling give this overview additional perspective.

The legislation being drafted by Messrs. Reid and Kyl is rattling state governments, even though few details have been made public. The draft legislation would create a federal system for online poker, similar to one being pushed by large Nevada-based casino companies, according to people briefed on the matter and a version of the bill obtained by The Wall Street Journal in 2010.

This Kyl-Reid collaboration has been rumoured for over a year now, but the speculation seems to be intensifying just lately... my understanding of the latest scuttlebutt (neither politician has made definitive statements on the rumours that they are working together) is that the quid pro quo for Kyl's cooperation on getting an internet poker bill through is a ban on other forms of online gambling, but that is not absolutely clear yet.

The rumour du jour just last week was that this duo were going to attach their internet poker legalisation bill to the big cyber security bill that was just passed...but it did not have any attachments so that's another unfounded fairy tale.

Joe Barton's bill now has 30 sponsors I believe, so there's still backstage action going on there, too.
