When I try out a new slot I usually whether I like it within a few minutes.

To properly asses any new slot you need to put AT LEAST 500 spins through it - preferably a lot more. Obviously the more you play, the more you find out about it.

I tend to just jump straight in with real money play, but of course, you can always try the game in "fun mode" first.

I agree with you there, but it's tough to get past that first impression. If I try a new slot and the first 20 spins are dead, instinct kicks in and I walk away thinking "well that game sucks", even though I know 20 spins is nothing. I'll play it again, but I'm usually more cautious with it and won't stick around for very long when it's "cold".

If the first 20 spins are really good, I tend to play the slot more often later on, and keep playing longer during cold spells. Doesn't make much logical sense, just human nature I guess.

Liking a slot doesn't often have much to do with the quality of the slot, but rather how well you've done on it. Eagle's Wings from Microgaming for example, I hate it because it seems to treat me like crap, my wife loves it because she always seems to do well on it.

Any slot can be the best or the worst, just depends on who you talk to.

I tend to prefer games that are medium to medium high variance. I have an old and slow computer, and some games (Girls with Guns springs to mind), play horribly on my computer. I loved the original LOTR, but I find the colours garish on that game, and despite a few very good hits, I rarely play it. Although it's no longer available to me, Playboy spun along great for me and was a favourite.

DOA feels like watching paint dry, I can't stand hanging in for long on it. But I've tried, after all the mouthwatering screenshots.

Sometimes a game that seems poor at first can turn into a favourite for me.

There are games I play mostly because I like the look and sound of. Immortal Romance definitely is in that catagory.

Some beat me down over time, never popping out a good win.

The odd one, reviews of the slot here at CM have been enough for me to not spend very much time on one.

I rarely decide in a few minutes, unless the game is nearly unplayable on my computer.

I'm not sure - I mean, I'll try all new slots for a while.

To try to give examples, I've played Ching Ching on 3Dice quite a bit - I think the look of the slot is the best of all on 3Dice; on the other hand, the pay is worst also, IMO. So while I typically try to play each slot at least for one spin during each session, I put Ching at the bottom of my list, frequently skipping it entirely.

Slotronomicon (also 3Dice) is a game with gruesome icons/symbols, and not the best pays, but I just like it, and can't help but play it for any session I have. I think it has to do with the frequent bonus rounds, most of which pay very low (50x your bet is a very good bonus round, 200x is almost unheard of), but a rare bonus round can pay well, so there is the potential.
