Got reservations in T-town. Haven't been in years so I was surprised any casino 'remembered' us. LOL Phoned around... Rooms rates are ridiculously low right now. $33 at Sam's, $35 at Roadhouse, etc. Checked with Marketing at Gold Strike and they gave us 2 nights free, no arm twisting. I like covered parking, and for hubby, nice recently renovated rooms (less germs) will be best. I'm going to load up on travel size hand sanitizers and sanitizer wipes. And we'll stay away from buffet food (I never thought the GS buffet was anything to write home about, anyway.)

We won't have any comps to start out, but wth... we're both in need of a break, and way overdue for a gambling trip.

Anything I need to know about that's changed in the last couple of years? Does the GS still have the occasional $5 and $10 3/2 BJ? And food comps reasonably easy after a few hours play?

For VP play, I'll wander over to the Roadhouse.

Have a great time Ms.Mousey,I'm not to sure as to what has changed as its been awhile since I have been to Gold Strike.

I do wish you and the hubby a great and relaxing mini getaway, have a safe trip girl and enjoy:)

warning... kinda sorta trip report

Had a great time. Wow, I've really missed our usual 3 or 4 trips a year to T-town.

Goldstrike is completely remodeled (it needed it!). Rooms were clean, dry and mold free. Flat screen TV. Free wireless internet -- though I didn't use it much. LOL Very pleasant room and comfortable bed. A lot of new penny slots on the casino floor.

Rooms were free, they gave me $40 in freeplay when we got there, most meals were comped. I hit a $1800+ progressive on .25 VP. Man... I played that damn thing for hours and hours every day.... finally hit it around 10:30 the night before we left. Dealt a Q, J, 9 of clubs and junk. Probably should have kept the 9, but with the progressive that high -- screw it -- held the Q & J and the rest of the royal popped in. At first I thought I'd just hit a flush. (I was tired and bleary eyed by that time.) LOL

Slots pretty well ate me alive when I played. Hubby hit $275 on a .25 Triple or Double Red, White & Blue single line 3 reeler. (He hates the vid slots.) He cashed out another $100 or so on the .25 Wheel of Fortune. WoF eats me up in 2 minutes, and he can sit there for hours playing on the same $20 he started with. Go figure. He pretty well stayed even, up one session down a little the next, playing at the $10 BJ table, then finished up in the black the last night.

We stopped by Sam's Town on the way out on the last day just to play a bit and make our presence known. Slots were eating me alive (didn't want to get tied up on a long VP session) till I sat down at a penny Wild Orchid. Damn, I love that game when it's playing. Slipped in a $20 and played for way over an hour, and cashed out $300, cashed in my ticket and we hit the road.

Came home with all our gambo money and with enough extra to cover gasoline (yikes) and other travel expenses. Free trip! Yay!

Even with the economic downturn, and with us being there during the week, the GS, the 'Shoe, the Roadhouse, and Sam's were all extremely busy.

Unlike playing at online casinos, even though we left with some of the Goldstrike's money, I'll bet you they send us free room and freeplay and meal coupons for later on. If they don't, I'll be extremely surprised.

Be sure to check your Mlife players club account on line

Goldstrike is VERY generous, we went once last summer and they are still trying to give me $350 Freeplay twice a month which if I planned a trip well I could get $700 out of them over two days, plus free shows and food vouchers. So you should get generous Freeplay and meals/shows out of them. That's on top of free rooms. I didn't like the casino as much as the Beau Rivage but I may go back once to get the freeplay. Now I do play a higher denomination than you did but you played for a long time so that will count for a lot with them.
I KNOW you used a players club card. Sometimes offers will be online but not sent to you in the mail (like free slot tournaments) so be sure to check your MLife rewards on line. Glad you won!

I won't so much as sneeze in a casino without a players card. LOL I had forgotten about checking our accounts online. Thanks!

GS was once our 'home' casino. But it had gotten a bit old and worn and the Vegas suits came in a few years ago and changed the players club and and killed the decent VP. We moved to Sam's and I rather like the casino -- and their 9/6 JoB. LOL

But we hadn't been in at least 3 years and the GS was the only that ponied up comped rooms... so they got our play. We hope for a fall trip. And if halfway decent comps come along, we may go back to the GS, even though they have gawdawful VP.

Side note: Let it be known that I hate the new cowboy theme of the (now) Roadhouse. Really goes well with the Swedish chalet exterior. *rolling my eyes* What was Harrah's thinking??? I DO like ordering my drinks from the Menu onscreen at the machine. How cool is that? And it's fast! Both Roadhouse and Horseshoe have that nifty little feature. Probably Harrah's, too, but we didn't visit there.

I saw photos of all the flooding all across the south east of our country. The Tunica pics made me think, I'll bet Mousey is glad she went before all this mess!

It is a horrible situation for all. Especially the New Orleans people. They have to be getting panicky.

Received emails last night and today... GoldStrike and Roadhouse are up and running...

Too bad I can't get away right now... :p

Just as a follow up... Even though the GS gave us free rooms, food, money last trip (which was our first trip in YEARS) AND I hit a nice little progressive... Yesterday I received coupons for June ... $100 in freeplay, $50 food, and 2 free Any nights (that includes weekends).

Soooo... Guess they thought I played in the Spirit of the Bonus and want me (and my money) to come back. LOL

begin short rant....

My point, is that online casinos (whenever we get to play again) have GOT to get their crap together about player retention and comps. REAL comps... not these silly $10 free but you can only cash out $100 or whatever after playing it thru 40 times only on slots, and musn't vary the wager too much, and musn't flat bet, and musn't bet too high (that's trying to win big and abuse the bonus) and musn't bet too low (that's trying to win by grinding out the WR), and can't withdraw unless you stand on your head and whistle Dixie with your mouth full of crackers.

And not these comp points traps of Earn 1/1000th of a cent per every $1000 wagered, and then when you redeem them, you must wager them 40x and can only cash out 5x or 10x the amount redeemed. That's not a comp.

/end rant

Dunno if we'll get to go in June... real life and all that... if Tunica were only closer... the 6 hour drive isn't a day trip or a quick one nighter..

I am leaving tomorrow of a charter flight from Green Bay to Tunica courtesy of Harrah's. Now that I am semi-retired just doing consulting projects on MY schedule, I have been taking advantage of almost every free charter that comes my way and there have been a lot of them.

This particular one is free air and 3 nites hotel over Memorial Day weekend. I am staying at the Horseshoe, which reopened last weekend according to my host there.

I will give a mini trip report when I return. My understanding was that Harrah's - formerly knows as "The Grand" - was hit the hardest in terms of the flooding. But I will know more tomorrow.

Staying at the Horseshoe, besides being a lot nicer than Harrah's in rooms and casino, also allows me to play at Gold Strike and use comps from both places. I know all my food will be comped - so only expense is gaming funds.

Went to the Roadhouse (next door to Horseshoe which is also a Harrah's property) but its a dump and I wouldn't go back there again.

FWIW,

Diane
