Where does your money come from?

Before we ever went to Tunica for our very first gambling trip, we set up a separate (free, no minimum) checking account and saved up -- just like for a vacation. Any extra money went into the account.

And we still keep our money separate today. Anything extra... software rebate checks, unexpected refunds, etc., all go into the account. Whatever money we brought back from the casino trip would go right back into the account. We had it built up pretty good -- but lately it's gotten low as BJ and VP have been very bad to us for the past 2 years. But so far, we've been able to keep recycling to and from that account without dipping into our regular checking account. (crossing fingers, knock on wood, and all that)

Great and interesting question. Also, I admire your discipline and money management skills and saving methods.....I think it varies for everyone from the extremes of the addicted who go to lengths including manipulation beyond comprehension (I am even aware of it on this forum as recently as y-day) to the wealthy who have the assets earned over years of hard work (or possibly other means) and then everything in between!...I personally use Lines of Credit but not as a means of borrowing as some forum members seem to think about casino LOC's. Any markers I sign are backed by discretionary liquid assets. If not, as Robwin recently pointed out using markers not supported by one's assets is a recipe for financial disaster and imo should be avoided and not allowed but unfortunately casino's credit departments due diligence is poor at best. How can the bankrupt consistently be extended casino credit??? Happens all the time!...JMO

I have to agree with Nash..the way I see it is if you can't afford to pay cash for something, you really don't need it. Gambling is a want, not a need.

That reminds me I need to go check my FICO's as I do every quarter for accuracy mostly! And not a bad idea with ID theft especially for all online gamblers with the information we are required to give out. Haha, Mousey, looks like G is also paranoid. Hope there have not been any inquiries by our friends in Washington...gonna go do while I am thinking about!

When I wouldn't prop up their gambling problem, I was accused of not being there as a friend and lectured on how one person needs to help another. Their state of denial is a really sad thing to see.

I'm paid on a monthly basis. When my nickel a month salary from GoneGambling is in the bank ,monthly bills are taken care of first, and the remainder, except for a small "play" allowance, goes into savings. When that's gone--that's it for the month.

My gambling money comes from the overtime I put in @ work. My husband and I made a pact any extra money we earn can be spent the way we want. Its sometimes alot and sometimes its nothing. Not all my extra money goes to gambling mind you but it is the only source for it.

Well said and too bad some are so manipulated that they enable other's serious problems!.....That said, I do think there are responsible gamblers. Having checked my credit just now, I think below is a real winner screenshot. (I do understand bad things happen to good people but all should be as responsible as Mousey with gambling. Also, most that know me prolly can not understand my 4 figure average bets in BandM's or how I give back in entirety nice winnings online but as I have stated before it is all relative and I believe this screenshot proves what my real priorities are)....Best to all and if one has a serious problem like the one that got Mousey thinking there is help including much good info on this site but you have to want to help yourself!..Lecture over!!

That's what drives me nuts... the coworker that will blow his paycheck (and a weekend he could have worked overtime for extra bucks) is the same guy that will (the very next work week) ask to borrow lunch money -- which he never repays. I did it once, long ago, but now I always tell him no. (Sorry, but I got bills to pay, too.) Anyway... one day last week he asked to borrow money for lunch and I told him sorry, I was almost broke, but he was welcome to one of my PB&J sandwiches. And I must say... the guy was not only insulted but got pissed off at me. And I make good PBJ! I usually don't take any lunch w/me, but I wanted to work through lunch that day.

I love having that Starbucks right next to elevator so I can sneak down in my PJ's for OJ (do not drink coffee,lol) and pound cakes,danish,etc. in the early morn.-----Is the Starbuck's closing for whatever they did over,LOL?????.....good thread btw,Mousey!!

lol. it was a guess. i think there's about 300 mill. people in the country now. i dont know how many are credit worthiness. that's a good score. have no idea what mine is. was around 750 last i heard, or cared. my boy in chicago is gonna test free agency tomm. he wants 2 mil a yr. from the bears. dont know how realistic that is. he also wants to play every down not just special teams so he is gonna test the waters. titans need a good undersized linebacker? lol.

I've read somewhere that the recommended starting bankroll for a VP player is RF x 6 to withstand 'going broke'. Even though I have become 'one' with WinPoker, 75% of my time and gambling money goes to VP, I am 3 full cycles 'behind' -- VP hates me, I'm also not a lucky person, and the only time I've come out ahead at B&M casinos was from slot winnings. Go figure. And yes, I am so anal that I keep up with which money goes for slots and what goes for VP.

Mousey,sorry to upset. I was not refering to the SB in the Shoe. It is still going strong.......I was refering to all the Starbucks closing for 3 hours to do something maybe y-day iirc or Wednesday last week. Not even sure what it was about,maybe training,whatever.....anyways when I think of the Shoe,the SB goes hand in hand and rest assured it is still going strong!

CEO Howard Schultz announced the 3-hour closure starting at 5:30 p.m. local time Tuesday to energize 135,000 employees.

He wants baristas to share their passion for making espresso, or as he says, "to pull the perfect shot, steam milk to order and customize their favorite beverage."

Schultz says it's part of his refocusing on the coffee customer experience.

Since the chairman returned as CEO in January he has been making changes to revive Starbucks' growth....

I have a very strict gambling budget. I play $20 every morning and that money comes from my disposable income left over after ALL bills are paid. Ill play a little more if Rich gets side job or if I win.

Im pretty good but there are times I play once or twice too many times, but that doesnt effect my bills or food or car gas. It just effects us as far as not going out to dinner that weekend if I play and lose past my budget.

Im in a different situation than most though. I dont work but I also dont use up gas from not driving, I still have income, I dont have to buy lunch or clothes for a job. I dont make a ton but I dont spend a ton either so that loosens us up.

I keep seeing the term disposal and discretionary income. I mentioned the term discretionary liquid assets which got me thinking. Yes, life is too short too not enjoy and discretionary income should be used as part of a budget. That said are gamblers saving for other purposes like an emergency fund,investing,retirement or better known as paying yourself??? Or is the mindset even for the financially responsible, make sure all bills are paid (not including my term "paying yourself") then the remainder is discretionary income to be spent whether on gambling,etc.? Just curious but I understand if one feels compelled not to respond.

Let's just say, we 'paid ourselves' when we were younger and both working. Now, if a fat jackpot (yeah right LOL) or the tax check comes, that is divided, some goes to 'fun' things and some goes to savings -- unless something needs our immediate attention ... such as tires for the car or similar.

And I keep online gambling money separate from our B&M (joint) bankroll. Needless to say, my online funds are very, very small, and almost nil right now as I've gone into semi-online gambling retirement. Once upon a time it was self-funding and never ran dry. That was 'once upon a time'.

Part of our bills are paying into our 401k every week (10 % with 50 % match ) plus we put some in the savings every month (it may a lump one time a month or smaller amounts each week) We pay ourselves

When I use the word disposable income, it means just that, its money that is left over after everything else is paid. See..Im not one of those women who are into "the latest must have stuff" I never liked wearing alot of jewelry (besides I have all of my mom's and aunt's) , Im not a shoe freak or clothes hound. Im a mans' dream !! That's what Rich's friends tell him . I even think buying roses on Valentines day is a waste of money!

These are my must haves though (im not a total wierdo lol)

1. Very good Louis Vuitton knock offs (I mean really good, they cost alot less but still cost a pretty penny) You should see my collection but Im finished and got everything I need

2. Good Perfume. BUT...they last because I dont go out so I dont need any now either. I like Isamyaki(sp), Vera Wang, Krizia....nice stuff!

3. Name Brand Grocery with the few exceptions. I dont care what people say, there is a difference between generic and store brand. Im a foodie and cook every night and took 6 yrs of cooking, gourmet etc and know there is a difference.

4. Nice Hotel stays. I need my regular trips to the Trop

Other than that, I dont spend money during the week. I am a reformed snob and Im loving it. I look back and get sick at myself for being so snobby when I was younger having to have the best of everything. I was very spoiled and learned that I dont need to spend foolishly to keep up with others. I was so disgusted when my neice and her husband spent $7K for the superbowl when they live in Phoenix. They just HAD to have the whole superbowl experience. What a waste!

Good Post Babs but we may have to agree to disagree on The Superbowl,LOL....when the Titans played in it in 2000 nothing was stopping me including 240 miles of icy dangerous road conditions (southerners have no idea how to drive on ice including me) on the road to Atlanta....fortunately tickets were not a problem as one of the players gave (not sold) me a great seat in the Georgia Dome....very generous as the Players were only alloted 15 total tickets at that time.....still may be just 15 but not sure but 15 is really not that many for immediate family,etc. for what is possibly a once in a lifetime event!

Dont get me wrong Nash, I understand how important the Superbowl is to many peope. Infact, back in 1980 I was visiting a friend in IN and I had to drive back to Chicago before the superbowl started (It was the Steelers). The roads were full of ice and snow but I made it because I had to see my Steelers win LOL.

I just wouldnt pay $7K for any ticket to see anything, even if I had all the money in the world. I just really feel the industry takes advantage of fans whether its sports or entertainment. They all work very hard for their money, I dont dispute that but that doesnt make them deserving enough to make that kind of money to me. I would rather see them have 3 less cars or 3 less vacation homes and give some of that salary to the Police, Fire and Teachers

Gambling money comes from your job, investments, successful gambles.

Money management affects all of us, either due to how greedy corporations are getting, like Walmart underpaying people, or overspending by people.

Money management issues happen in the gambling games themselves, fraud by the casino, fraud by the player.

Every game has money management plays that work for several games, and wouldn't work for others.

Sometimes luck is needed for the win, mainly it's skill and knowing when to quit.

Every game has a different amount of money that is needed to play comfortably within the given limit.

You also need to have a win goal, loss limits, making sure to handle the hot trends and the ice cold trends and chops.During the hot streaks, you need to maximize your return.The pros call this a plateau.

There are money management books on the internet, written by professional gamblers for gamblers.

Blackjack money management is different than say craps money management.

You need skill, luck, and money management, even a few stakers too, would be good to be a good gambler.Companies need the bank to stake them, so there will be some people that could be trusted, with a small amount of risk money for staking.

Integrity is important to life and it applies to religion and gambling too.Without it, life would be one big hell hole.
