I moved last Friday. I hate moving. I hate packing and I hate carrying everything I own from one place to another. I hate unpacking and I hate setting everything I own back up. This move puts me way closer to work and I should have done it years ago.... But I hate moving.

So I set my computer back up and turn it on. Fried my power supply. No big deal. I run out and get a new one and install it. I turn it on and when it went it took my hard drive with it.

No big deal. I've been transferring files from one computer to another for about 15 years. A few years ago I started worrying about losing them so I got another hard drive and I've kept an image of my main drive updated weekly.

The power supply fried that drive too.

So the lesson is to back up your files to an external drive. One that can't be effected when your computer explodes.

Now I have a brand new internal drive and a brand new external drive and I'm waiting for a local company to recover my data from my back up drive. They say it's certain they can do it but they have to order some part to get the drive to spin again. Maybe another week and I can restore my computer back to it's pre-exploded state. Files and all.

Did I mention I hate moving?

Fun times.

I'm about to move

I'm about to move. And I like you hate moving. Especially a lot of stuff. Packing sucks. Lifting sucks. The while process just sucks.

I have an old e-machines that I bought back in the day for like 700 bucks. It had 128 MB ram that I upgraded to 328MB ram. I installed a 256MB stick of ram in it. Man that thing kicked butt after that! But these days you can't run much with that! lol Anyway my computer crashed. You could start it up, but no picture  I believe the Video card went again :-(

No Big deal. I have a newer e-machines that I bought a few years after that one. With a lot of the same stuff I needed saved on it. I'll just take the hard drive out of the older e-machines one and install it in this newer one right???\

Wrong!!! IT crashes!!! WTF!!!! 2 computers in less than a half an hour???? WTH?????

Well I take out both hard drives from both e-machines. I try one in a "Dell machine" it doesn't work!!!! NOOOOOOOO

Try the other drive in the Dell machine and sure enough......

It Works!!!! Files saved for now!!!!! So I know how you feel!!!

Now I should run out and buy one of those nifty sticks that you stick in your USB port and it saves all your files!!!! But I won't....

Until its to late!!!! :eek::eek::eek:

I can't really back up to a stick. I have a 500 GB hard drive and it's over 3/4 full. (that includes installed programs.) I think I'll be pretty safe with an external USB drive.

Hard drives are pretty cheap these days though. You can buy one for the price of one casino deposit.

If you value your data at all or just don't want to have to reinstall everything on your computer, back up your data or clone your drive to an external drive. Mine's on the other side of the desk. Next time my computer explodes I won't have to worry about it.... unless the whole desk explodes. :eek2:
