Facebook going down for 6 hours yesterday apparently affected 3bn people on the planet, with not only Facebook going offline, but also their sister companies Instagram and Whatsapp.

Have to hand it to Twitter and their founder Jack Dorsey though, who took advantage of the situation by awesomely trolling facebook, whatsapp and instagram on their platform. As a result IMO Twitter yesterday won the interent!

Reddit chimes in like a boss.

Quality - Loving these :D. Apparently according to reports, people were getting a bit tetchy last night at Facebook HQ. LOL

A FB sysadmin was on reddit (username: ramenporn) earlier giving a play-by-play of what was going on with Facebook's DNS. Then his posts went viral, of course, and he suddenly deleted all posts AND his reddit account. Here is the rundown from Twitter.

Arstechnica article about it. 👇

I think most of the planet breathed a collective sigh of relief that these sites were down, as it meant a modicum of said people having to revert to other types of communication, like.....talking. Or the closest approximation they could manage in a form of erratic hand gestures and grunting/ crying :(

Unfortunately many non-FB-linked sites like Tik-Tok were still functioning, but if this 'accident' proved anything, good things can and do happen!

And Monsieur Sugarmountain losing $7 Billion is of course the icing on the cake 👌

You took the words.... Yes, imagine for a day billions of people having to interact normally, their fingers twitching nervously as they rediscovered the art of body language, conversation and humans. Billions of people realizing that no fucker on the planet is actually interested in their photograph of the pasta they just cooked or the fact they did 5,000 steps on their ShitFit or whatever, the inconsequential banality of their lives not recorded for a day.:laugh:

There's a nice technical breakdown of what happened for those who are interested.

Incidentally, Signal is available as an alternative to WhatsApp (Signal is very good), it's run as a non-profit, doesn't harvest your data, and doesn't enrich Zuckerberg and his cronies.
