Developers Pitch Casino Proposals At Springfield Public Forum
Penn National Gaming Says It Now Controls Property Needed For Complex Off I-91

SPRINGFIELD —
— Several hundred people came to see a dazzling combination of video and slide presentations Tuesday night by two casino developers competing to build a gambling complex in the city.

Penn National Gaming and MGM Resorts International each would spend about $800 million to reconfigure separate parcels along I-91. State officials will allow only one casino in Western Massachusetts.

At a public forum at CityStage, executives for both developers were asked questions by residents who wanted to know how their proposals might affect traffic, whether they planned to maintain and integrate historic buildings into their plans, if they would welcome unionized labor, whether local art would hang on the casino walls, and if they had future plans for the heart of downtown.
