I just tried the new casino Desert Dollar. I saw that they had a good rating, so I deposited 1000.00 to get their 300 bonus. I am having some misgivings. I play Blackjack and havae for many years in Vegas. It started off losing hands above 52% and climbed steadily unti it is now at 59%. I played a total of 349 hands and lost 205. Now, I am not an expert in probabilities, but I do know when to hit and when to stand. But even an amatuer can expect to lose only about 52% of the time. I can't help but wonder if I am just having an unusual anomaly or am I being taken. Do you or any of the other experts have an opinion.

Actually, you can expect to lose more than 52% of the time; 59% sounds about right. Players make up the percentage lost to the increased number of hands lost by getting increased payback on double down opportunities and by getting blackjacks.

The interesting thing is that I was going along back and forth -- losing at 56% and then droping down to 48% - But when I got up close to the 9100.00 wagered that I need to be able to withdraw my funds - then I hit this anomaly and it went up to 59% and quickly drained my funds as I lost 205 hands out of 349 and that was a drop of 20 betting units. It seems like quite a big coincidence to me. In several books I have read that 52% was the average edge for the house. But if you knew how to play good strategy you could cut it down to just a little over 50%. I was very surrised to hear you say that 59% was about right.

House edge and number of hands lost aren't the same thing, because the hands are not all of equal value. Players get extra payback on blackjacks, for example, and the dealer doesn't.

House edge refers to the amount of $$$ lost; that would be how many hands total times the bet. How did you do on that measure?

On the 44% game I had a $50 deposit and a $250 bonus with 40 times wagering requirements.
