When are they going to bring about some gun control laws in America? It's every other week we see these stories on the news!

You really think gun control laws stop criminals

It's too late for any gun control law. There are so many guns here that the government would have to go house to house confiscating guns.

Good thing you aren't in charge of politics here. Well if you were, you'd be dead for trying to spit on the constitution.

Every casino I've ever been to has a metal detector at the door - how did this guy manage to get a gun in?

Anyhow, I personally don't think the problem is guns - I think the problem is that the only way people believe they can solve their problems or know how to react to things is with violence. Someone cut you off on the freeway? Kill them. People at work pissing you off? Kill them. Wife sleeping around? Kill her. Children in the way of your partying? etc.

It's really sad.

Clayton I have never been to a casino with a metal detector! EVER! I have always believed that everyone knows the extensive security a casino has and that would be the one place they wouldn't bring a gun...unless they want to be caught that is.

As for gun control...never ever think gun control works. The bad guys will always have them and the general population would be left vunerable.

Very true. Bad guys will always have access to guns. But let's pretend they didn't. If I'm ever attacked for whatever reason or if someone breaks into my residence it would suck having to hope the police will get there in time (a lot can happen in 5 minutes). It's very comforting to know I have many options for ummm taking care of the situation :sniper:


Many stories of a shooter on a rampage being stopped by someone with a CHL (concealed handgun license).

I do believe our laws for carrying a firearm unlawfully should be enhanced.

We had a gun buy back scheme in Australia a few years back and it worked well. As far as I know the guns you are allowed to buy now are very limited(only rifles?). You also have to prove you need it(Hunter, Vet, etc...)

Look, I'm realistic. I know there is no simple solution to the gun problem in America. You guys love your guns over there. It just gets upsetting hearing stories week after week about shootings in schools, shopping centres, casinos, etc...(I know the media is sensationalist too and tend to report the negative).

I really believe that no-one should have a gun unless they can prove they need it for their occupation/lifestyle. That is how it is over here.

I mean why does a 'hunter' in America need a sub machine gun or grenade launcher? How could they possibly justify selling these weapons to citizens?

Simplistic views I know....I tend to be idealistic though!

Yea I hear you. Crime in some parts of America is pretty high. I feel people should be allowed to own a gun if for nothing else home defense / personal defense. It would be nice for me to know that the odds of someone having a gun on a traffic stop are minimum but I rather have to approach a vehicle more carefully than explain to a father why he couldn't defend his family against the home intruders.

Because of my believes I know gun crime will be a problem as it does make things easier. But I also know that turds will be turds. I've seen idiots break into houses, commit rapes, robberies, etc and all without a gun or at minimum a knife. I take great pleasure when one breaks into the "wrong" house. People should feel safe at least in their on homes and having a gun inside makes that just a little bit more possible. It's a sad truth but we just can't get to you quick enough in the event that something happens. True, arrival times can be extremely quick in some cases but it depends on call volume, officer numbers in that given city, and location of said officer(s) when the call dropped.

In Phoenix, I'm pretty sure all the casinos I went to had metal detectors right at the entrance - they weren't big obvious things, but they were there. Lol - maybe they were just scanning to see how much money you were bringing in?

I currently live in Canada where they have gun control. You can have a rifle or multiple rifles if you have permits and have passed a gun safety course. You can have a handgun if you have a couple thousand dollars and a connection. Sad but true.

The bad guys will always find a way to threaten/kill with or without guns so that's not the issue IMO. The main problem with gun control, or lack of it, is people who you wouldn't class as criminals but who are volatile or mentally not quite stable enough to be trusted with one.

In the UK we don't allow guns but the bad guys no doubt can get hold of them easy enough and gun crime is low - limited mainly to criminals. Who even without guns would still kill people. What you rarely generlly get is the random guy who lost his temper in a fit of car rage and shot someone or the guy who waded into a group of people and randomly shot them. It still happens from time to time but very infrequently.

Now this is just my opinion of course, but the problem is convincing the US public, after all this time, that they will be in a safer environmet with gun control measures in place. They will still see it as the best way to defend themselves and overlook the fact that they may well be 10 times more likely to get shot at than if only criminals had guns.

Well then that would be solved by making it harder to obtain a CHL. If need be a psych test, more in depth background invest, along with the normal classes, or whatever than can come up with.

I'm not sure on y'alls crime rate but America has plenty of violent crime. More so than what media reports (and we all know how they are). Telling someone they are less likely to be shot by a random crazed individual is a far cry from telling them they will be safe from the everyday turd. We need only to look at DC attempt at gun control. (**i ran the next sentence together...no i'm not from DC.)

Just in the past few days alone, we have had multiple burglaries, robberies, assaults, and one stabbing. No dead bodies but being in a home that was broken into leaves most residents filling violated and unsafe. The number of random crazies shooting up places cannot compare to the number of violent crimes police deal with on a daily basis. In a span of 6 months we were already at 11-28000+ case number. Meaning we have had 28,000+ calls for police service. Sure a huge number of those aren't violent crimes but a huge number are crimes against person(s) and violent crimes. Sadly that's just one city and of the violent/personal ones most involved weapons other than guns (ie personal weapons, knifes, etc).

I rather prepare and protect myself from the every day turds of America than preempt the crazy idiot that decides to go on a rampage.

Of course this is just my opinion as well. So who knows but for now I rather my wife grabs a gun instead of a phone to call 911 if someone breaks in.
