Can I use a proxy server when playing at an online casino?

I use a proxy server for speed and security. I am new to online gambling, but I have done some research before playing and I see that there are a lot of rules/terms. If anyone here knows, or if a casino operator reading this could tell me, I am wondering if I go through a proxy, will I have violated the terms, have problems. If, for example, I use a proxy that is in another country that I am registered. Or will I have problems if the casino determines that I am using a proxy even if it is where I live. I would rather find out here than later after I have deposited!

I am new here too, but think that you might have problems. I see that a lot of casinos keep track of IP addresses to make sure that they are all coming from the same place. Or use it as an excuse to not pay.

If you get the same address everytime though you might be able to.

Most people have a dynamic IP that changes every so often so the casino could not, should not say anything if your IP changes as most people have IP's that change every so often.

i thought proxy servers assign a single IP address for all users ... you can be accused of opening multiple accounts if other players use the same proxy.

Chuco: Dial-up IPs do often change with each dial-up. However, they will always be in a range so they are not completely random (eg. 100.100.100.01 to 100.100.100.100 - these are not real but demonstrate the point). As such, a casino will see that you are dialing up with an IP always within a certain range. A proxy server (if you use a different one each time) could show you being in spain one session and then hong kong the next.

Biere: You are right... when you use a proxy server it just creates a further point in a communication line.. so to the casino every person on that proxy would look the same. Example:

Bob's actual IP is 10.10.10.10
Jane's is 55.55.55.55

They both connect through the same proxy (even though they are unknown to each other)

10.10.10.10 asks proxy server to play at a casino. The proxy does this and relays the result back to Bob. So:

Bob's computer (10.10.10.10) ---> Proxy (77.77.77.77) ----> Casino

Casino ----> Proxy ----> Bob

And for Jane

55.55.55.55 ---> 77.77.77.77 ---> Casino..... and back again.

So the casino will just see 77.77.77.77 linked to two account (Bob and Jane), and even though there is no foul play, they may use this under the 'IP checking' rule often included in Bonus T&Cs.

My god... wasn't that a long winded way to say I agree with you!!!

Using a proxy server like this will only work with web based casinos (e.g. java & flash). Download casinos would not utilize the proxy, since they do not go thru the browser for their connections.

Why would you want to use an internet proxy for gaming anyway? Typically they are used to access sites you are unable to get to due to filtering software or other restrictive measures, OR to conceal your identity to the website(s) you are visiting. Though they may offer some limited speed enhancement, this is typically not the case with java and/or flash sites. Since you obviously have an internet connection to get to the proxy, you could connect directly to the casino(s).

The only reasons that occur to me would be either because online gaming is illegal where you live, or you're trying to get around filtering software (like netnanny, etc) which makes me think maybe you're underage/restricted due to compulive gambling, or you're trying to open multiple accounts. I seriously cannot think of any legitimate reason for wanting to do this, so maybe you can enlighten us.

A download casino is a piece of software running on your computer with all the privileges you have, so it can read your real IP address. I have no idea whether flash or java can also do it.

Sorry... in my post I should have indicated that it only works for websites. However, I do believe there are programs allwing you to proxy for all internet traffic.

Also.. I know that java can be used to detect real IPs regardless of proxy but am not sure of flash.

I am not an expert on proxys but what I have read is that their are different types of proxies, some are better than others, and you have to use a software program to determine how fast they are, what country, and their level of anonymity. From what I have read, an "elite proxy" is one which will look like a normal connection, no one can tell you are using a proxy. I do not know if it works for flash or java? A transparent proxy is one that will not change your IP but will speed up your connection if you use a good one. So I guess if you are using an elite proxy, the casino would not get your real IP or even know that you are using a proxy.

A proxy cannot speed up your connection, since everything has to filter thru it and to you. I've setup proxy servers and know how they work. It can serve up cached information faster, but that is for information that is not changing often (like the layout of things such as ebay that uses the same graphics on most pages). So in that scenario, the page you view would appear to load up faster. For something like online gaming, it may cache some graphics in a java casino, but for download and flash, it just cannot be faster.

Interesting that you didn't answer any of my concerns about why you want to use one. Makes me believe even more that this is for illegitimate purposes. Why else would you want to conceal your identity from the casino??
