Betfred pay 900k settlement

Agreed - feels like it's a bit of "we fine you this, sounds a lot of money but its more of a go away payment" everyone's happy.
People need to be held to account. A fine is fuck all to BetFred.
Sack those who were responsible for the failures. That's the only way to sort it.

The ukgc should have more teeth- be able to say license is suspended through the world cup or stop them taking bets for 3 months - that would hit them a lot harder

Unfortunately giving them more teeth is likey to result in them biting the wrong poor sod as they have done in recent years with the legislation they've introduced.

It needs someone at the top that's actually going to address the right issues and protections players need rather than thinking about their next holiday provided by [Insert dodgy casino/lobbyist here]

Ive said for years that if they really want change, speak to actual gamblers who know the industry from a punters perspective

Or join here and we can offer views on what needs to be changed. They need to stop asking their mates they went to Harrow and Oxford with, or mps who are in the pockets of the providers

Their legislation is largely shaped by the experiences of problem gamblers. While some of these measures do offer genuine protection for players as a whole, they do not reflect the views or interests of the wider player community.

I'm surprised. My limit on there is £80 weekly and the couple of times I've asked to increase it they've said no. It seemed like the more responsible of the sites I'm on. I guess if you didn't put any limit on in the first place it might be different though.

Betfred will pay £900,000 to the Gambling Commission as a result of social responsibility failures which included allowing a customer to lose nearly £18,000 in a 24-hour period without adequate safer gambling intervention.

Do the UKGC tell these customers they're going to fine casinos because of them or are they left thinking "I wonder if that was me?" when they read about it!

Reading the title of the thread I wrongly assumed they had agreed to payout a disputed sum to a player. Alas, another UKGC 'penalty'. Betfred have had quite a few of these now IIRC

I mean in December 2025 they got hit with a £825k 'penalty' for yet another AML and Social Responsibility Failings - Betfred receives 825k penalty from UKGC for AML and Social Responsibility failures - Casinomeister Forum

Maybe they should consider setting up a Direct Debit or Standing Order with the UKGC? 😇

Unless this is of course referring to the same penalty?

Even so the £3.25m they got hit with back in 2023 dwarfs it!

I often wonder when they are fined, if they would have the balls to ask the UKGC for proof of ID and someone to take a selfie holding a newspaper and their passport before they sent the payment.
