Belgium is now officially worse than Washington state when it comes to online gambling enforcement - penalties imposed on players.

BELGIAN BETCLIC PLAYERS FINED BY AUTHORITY

Betclic reportedly fined Euro 150 000 for accepting play from Belgian players.

Belgian news portal RTL Info reports that 79 Betclic.com online players have been sanctioned by the Belgian Gambling Commission (BGC) for playing through the unlicensed website, and there’s apparently “dozens more to follow”.

The Commission has allegedly imposed a fine of Euro 200 on each online player, a lucky break considering the BGC’s sanctions can top Euro 150000.

President of the BGC, Ettienne Marique commenting on the action said: "There will be more significant convictions on those who have played more money, or depending on the players’ occupation. Among them, there is a police officer, for example."

According to the report another 180 records are currently being processed.

Betclic.com for its part has reportedly been fined Euro 150 000.

Seriously wtf??? Penalising players is extortion IMHO. Fine the operators and force them to get a license if they want to operate in Belgium. Players should be left alone. I am so glad I don't live in Belgium.

We will probably be seeing many of the rest of the unlicensed operators pulling out very quickly. What chaos will ensue when that happens I wonder? (speaking of players deposits and winnings etc.)
