Record entry field of 747 pared down to 80 as Day 3 starts
With Flights 1 and 2 of Day One, and Day 2 in the Aussie Millions now completed, there are 80 survivors going into Day 3, all of whom will be in the money bubble as the southern hemisphere's biggest poker tourney continues at the Crown Casino in Melbourne.
The gruelling play schedule has seen an original field of 747 pared down to 299 pokerheads by the start of Day 2, and only 80 left standing going into Day 3, shedding many top names in pro poker in the process as the contestants joined battle furiously in a bid to win the $1.5 million main prize.
The chip leader at the close of Day 2 was Haralabos Voulgaris with over $634 000. Patrik Antonius had a swings and roundabouts sort of day that took him down to a mere 3 000 in chips, but staged a comeback and finished at $236 000. Some of the other pros still in the game are WSOP 06 Champ Joe Hachem on $275 000 , Shane "Shaniac" Schleger ($346 500) Gus Hansen on $ 562 500 , Andy Black ($501 500), David "The Dragon" Pham ( $350 000), Marek Kolk ($210 000), Paul Wasicka ($451 500) and Ross Boatman ($ 316 000).
Surprise of the day was the number 3 positioning on the chip list with $535 500 of 19 year old Jim Fricke, a player from Illinois who qualified online at PokerStars.
