Arizona Haboob (dust storm) video

We had a few dust storms when I lived there, once we went out with safety glasses into the back yard but could only stay out for a couple of minutes. I just heard from my old roomie who still lives there and he was saying that the storms I saw were nothing compared to this one, and now that I see it...wow, he was right! Thanks for posting.

I can't believe the advice they give re. if when you are driving and visibility gets so bad you have to pull over, turn off your lights so no one rear ends you. It makes much more sense to me that you pull over and put your emergency lights on. That's what I saw in other videos that people who were driving took.
My brother and his wife live there and she was outside when it hit, putting her horse in it's stable before driving home. She said her nose, eyes and mouth were filled with sand and she could have made mud castles in the shower when she was washing off! Apparently they had a smaller one hit again yesterday.

I lived through several incredible monsoons where it was raining so hard the wipers couldn't clear the windshield and the streets were flooded so you couldn't see the lines on the road or the edges of the road.

One day I was driving home from work (Mesa to Phoenix) and got caught in one of those downpours - basically the only way to tell where to drive was to follow the taillights of the car in front of you. They said on the radio that if you were going to pull over on the side of the road to wait it out to turn off your lights so nobody would think you're still driving and just plow into you.

IMO it was kind of a moot point because in most places you couldn't tell where the side of the road was anyhow - I saw several people who thought they were pulling over who ended up toppling sideways into a ditch full of water. :eek2:
