Any facebook users who are fans of CWC?

Facebook is throwing a lot of those "people you may know" recommendations on my timeline. Strangely enough, over the last few days I've noticed that at least one of the three is some skimpily dressed woman and unlike the normal people who show up, I don't have friends in common with them.

I was wondering why I'm getting these, I mean I'm pretty sure that my profile says that I'm a straight female so I'm not really the target market for these types of friendships. So then I started wondering if these are actually cloaked ads - that facebook is actually pimping these women's pages out there because the more views those pages get, the more advertising they're generating.

And then I was thinking hmmmm but why me? As I said, I'm a straight female. And then I realized that CWC in the last little while has been posting pics like these for World Cup promotions.

The Club World promos are fairly innocent, but it seems like CWC promos and these ads/recommendations started showing up at the same time. So now I'm thinking that Facebook has some sort of recognition thing running where it says, "hmmm ok looking at this person's timeline, it looks like they enjoy looking at pretty young women with extra cleavage if possible, so let's throw a few in the friend recommendations to see if they bite." Is that even possible?

Anyhow I thought I'd come and ask if anyone else has noticed anything or whether I should just go make myself a tinfoil hat and join the paranoid brigade. :o

EDIT: That chick in the texas shirt is supposedly a singer, not just some random bimbo - hard to tell by the pic I know.

EDIT2: Also the chick on the bottom left of the CWC pics, doesn't she look like Elisabeth Shue?

Do I dare to visit your facebook page anymore or will I too be a target then? :eek2:

I don't get much ads or suggestions at all in there these days, or I have just getting good at ignoring them.

Edit: I see that Bryan is someone I surely will stay far away from :)

Chayton facebook makes its money by advertising but you are right it has a recognition thing as you put it. If you view something like a gambling page you will start getting lots of adds for gambling and if you like a supermarket you will get supermarket ads. Also if your friends like anything then you will also get ads for reccomendations based on what your friends like and who your friends have added as friends. Also possible that like you say you are getting them because of promotions run by the casino featuring women like that.

Hi chayton,

As per Facebook terms:

People You May Know are people on Facebook that you might know. We show you people based on mutual friends, work and education information, networks you’re part of, contacts you’ve imported and many other factors.

I just checked my account and few others who liked the CWC page and this is not happening here. I believe that this is some isolated case.

Let see if anyone else experience this so I can look further.

And a shame that only ladies showed up :p I may ask brand manager to upload some pictures with males next time .... ;)

Kind Regards,
Karolina

Thanks Karolina, I don't know if it's got anything to do with the CWC promos or not - it may be a total coincidence. That's why I wanted to post and see if anyone else noticed the same.

lol and males would be good too. Or puppies.

Hi chayton,

I just had a word with CWC brand manager and here we go ...

Please check our FB page, hope that your friend suggestion box will look more interesting now.

Kind Regards,
Karolina

lol that's great! It's a pic of a shirtless David Beckham with his dogs on the beach. :notworthy

So maybe a few hundred more like that.... :o Funny, you notice that a couple of the male players are complaining already....lol

Seriously though...my main concern is whether Facebook was messing with me or not and if it had anything to do with those pics. That's all.

I created a facebook user account a few weeks ago as I needed to create a business page.

The email I used to register was brand new ([email protected]).

Every day without fail I get the same email from facebook....

I keep getting "do you know so-n-so" delivered to my yahoo addy even though that is not the addy I signed up to FB with. Someone out there is using it, but it isn't me.

I have tried to fix it, but they keep coming. Don't know what would work.

Don't you have the option to block the sender? (facebook)
If that is all you get it's not an account that is used much anyway, or you should have recieved other notifications too.

That's odd, if someone else signed up using your email address you should be able to get it back. I saw this on the help page, you could try this:

When someone adds an email address to their account we send a notification to every email address listed on the account. If someone added an email address that you own to their account, you can add it back to your account from your Settings and confirming it via your secure email. You may also want to change the password for the email address to keep it secure.

Thats just it, I get mail from a karate class, and other places that I have never been to. One today was from MySpace, saying my pictures were in? I have no idea who or what these people and places are.

I even got one today from FB, saying, "we're sorry you are having trouble logging into your fb account."

I sent them a message through their "help" page. We shall see!

Facebook is like having a giant stalker.

They assume who you want for friends and what you want to see. I get more advertisements in the body of my FB than I do posts from people I actually want to hear stuff from.

If it wasn't for keeping up with my kids and people I really want to hear from, I wouldn't have a facebook account.
