advice on Laptop

Hey, guys

A little advice needed, I smashe the screen on the laptop that I play my casinos on so while waiting to get it fixed I have been playing on my old one but it keeps overheating ( while playing slots or watching movies), Do you think its just the fan that needs cleaning?, even when it does not overheat the games are very slow and laggy

Why did you smash your screen? Losing?

I can't answer the real question but I would think it's just too old and weak...like me maybe

I once spilled a drink on my laptop, so had to take one from the pile I have in the garage (3 kids in the house = 4 dropped, stomped, Ribena drenched laptops). Anyways, this was the best of the lot but overheating as well. Hoovering the fan didn't help, but somehow it was alright and stayed on when placed on tiles in the lobby Not too comfortable, and probably not the answer you're looking for, but worked for me.

I have an old laptop like that too. Except mine is old enough if I tried to watch movies it would probably explode. It probably wouldn't hurt to clean the fan, and maybe see if you can get one of those laptop stands with the cooling fan built in? I think you can pick them up reasonably cheaply.

A lot of laptops are / were poorly designed when it comes to ventilation.

If your ventilation vents are UNDER the laptop, the easiest way to keep it cooler is to elevate it on a few books or table and leave the ventilation area free from obstruction. If it is on top (left or right) then the cooling mat won't help much. I used one before and even although my vents were under the laptop. the airflow generated by them is minimal and doesn't really cool the laptop sufficiently.

your laptop (with broken screen) has an external monitor connection ? so you can try with an DVI, HDMI or VGA monitor......

and dont clean the fans with a hoover! use compressed air in a can, or you can seriously mess up your stuff with the static build up from using a normal vacuum cleaner inside pcs :

I think I've used a hairdrier sometime. Cold and from a long distance. Is that as bad as a vacuum cleaner?

Did you know you could fix your own screen?

I dropped mine as well. I looked on Youtube

and found out how to repair it myself.

I ordered the screen online (60.00)

and within a few days it arrived, followed

easy directions and it 10 mins Voila! New screen.

I know you said you are having it repaired for

now... just a heads up to save you some money (for gambling lol)

if it happens again.

BTW a hot running laptop can make the running programs lag..

You should clean out the fan, it might help, if the laptop is not

too old.
