The mogul behind some of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas now wants to put his stamp on one of New York's racetracks.

Steve Wynn is one of several developers vying to run Aqueduct race track in Queens.

The track has been operating in the red by the New York Racing Authority for years, and now the state is accepting bids from groups that want to revitalize the site.

In an interview on NY1's "Road to City Hall" Friday, Wynn laid out his plan which calls for a "racino" or a combination casino and race track, but Wynn says he doesn't like that term.

"I don't think they're very pretty. And that's why I haven't done them before with my colleagues because they're not places that people are dying to go to have fun," Wynn said. "I'm thinking it's time to reinvent this and to come up something that's much better. And I figure if you're going to do it, do it in New York City."

If accepted, Wynn's $300 million bid would allow him to operate 4,500 new video slot machines at the racetrack.

Wynn's proposal is vying with several others including a plan from developer SL Green in conjunction with Hard Rock International.
