Casinos in Atlantic City given green light to reopen following Hurricane SandyGov. Chris Christie lifted the evacuation order for Atlantic City, and gave the green light for the casinos to reopen. Soon after that, the director of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement reinstated certificates of operation for the casinos, and assigned personnel to make sure it went smoothly. ATLANTIC CITY — Ten out of 12 Atlantic City casinos are expected to be open by this evening, with the remainder in operation by Monday.
Employees started showing up this morning after word came that Gov. Chris Christie had lifted an evacuation order for the city and the state was reinstating all gaming licenses.
By 11:30 a.m., the Golden Nugget had opened its doors to gamblers and within hours dozens were trying their luck at the slots. More casinos followed suit this afternoon
