Found a reference to this at GPWA and thought it would be interesting to CM peeps too.

A MAN who made nearly £80,000 from online gambling after using fraudulent passports, identity cards and false utility bills to open various online accounts has been jailed.

In the first prosecution of its kind, 35-year-old Andrei Osipau, from Plumstead was convicted for committing what is known in the industry as a 'Bonus Abuse'....

Yet another nail in the bonus coffin for honest players

fraudulent passports, identity cards and false utility bills

If all that's true, he's a thief and a fraud and a scammer. And they might want to look at where else he might have used those nice fake IDs.....

And for those wondering why casinos sometimes dig in their heels and want a photo with you holding your passport and DL and your new puppy, along with notarized docs and a vial of blood... well... like Simmo said... we pay the price.

This is NOT "bonus abuse", it is FRAUD.

Casinos cry "bonus abuse" when a player plays to win from a bonus the best way possible, but whilst keeping to the terms. The industry invented this definition, not the players. You would NOT be jailed for this kind of "bonus abuse" as it is a consequence of poorly designed offer structure, just as no-one got jailed for buying 8 hoovers just for the 8 sets of free flights way back when this scandal hit the company.

This man used stolen passports, committed bank fraud, laundered the proceeds, etc. This is what got him jailed.

Casinos should also think carefully about this, for if THEY are in the wrong, they too could find themselves up in court, and sentence passed. This may be the first case of it's kind, but it wont be the last.

Great post Vinyl.

That is not "bonus abuse". It is fraud. Plain and simple.
