Overview

SG Gaming – a division of Scientific Games Corporation – is one of the biggest names in both on, and offline gambling, and this global giant offer a number of different gambling solutions, for the betting, arcade, casino, and bingo sectors around the world.
Primarily focused on UK sectors, SG Gaming has merged two of the biggest developers in the industry – Barcrest and The Global Draw – making the company an unstoppable force.

Boasting a team of over 500, SG Gaming knows a thing or two about what it takes to run a successful gambling operation, and their games – which often have months of work put into them – have become somewhat of a household name in the online gambling industry, with Rainbow Riches one of their most popular game lines.

While SG Gaming have been slow to capitalize on the emerging mobile gaming market, today, their games are generally all mobile-optimized, and within this post we’re going to be taking a closer look at some of their most popular games – as well as looking at some more facts and pieces of information about the company.

Software Platform

SG Gaming don’t actually develop their own games – this is done, instead, by their in-house companies (Barcrest, Global Draw, etc), and each of their ‘child’ companies has their own way of developing games.

Most titles are now available to play in HTML5, and this ensures they can be played from both desktop devices, and mobile devices – although it’s worth pointing out that some of SG Gaming’s slots aren’t particularly mobile-friendly, so just bear this in mind.

Slot Games

Given their acquisitions of Barcrest and Global Draw, SG Gaming now have a huge portfolio of games – and you’ll find everything from exciting video slots, to casino table games, and video pokies. In this section below, we’re going to take a look at ten of SG Gaming’s most popular video slots.

Anchorman: Anchorman is one of the most famous comedy films in history, and SG Gaming manage to acquire the rights to develop a themed video slot, around the film’s theme. In this fast-paced and exciting game, you’ll team up with Ron Burgundy and Channel 4 News as you spin alongside various characters, including Champ, Brick, Brian, and Baxter – and with a whopping total of 4 different bonuses, it’s no surprise to see that Anchorman has become one of SG Gaming’s most popular slots.

Himalayas: Himalayas is a game that comes from the Barcrest studio, and this gigantic slot is comprised of 5 reels, all 10 symbols high, with a total of 100 paylines present within the game. The game benefits from a number of bonuses – the first of which is called the ‘Snow Slide Bonus’ – a randomly-triggered feature that can trigger on any base-game spin, leaving multiple wild symbols present on the reels – and, as with most of the game developer’s slots, there’s also a free-spins bonus, which offers unlimited retriggers.

Monopoly On The Money: Another game from the Barcrest studio, Monopoly On The Money is yet another game in the Monopoly range – one of the most successful slot franchises in history – and in this slot, you’ll once again be playing alongside Mr Monopoly in search of big wins. A lucrative free-spins feature ensures there’s excitement on every spin, and like we’ve seen with some of Barcrest’s slots, there’s also a ‘Big Bet’ feature available, which gives players additional features including a respin and Community Chest Card bonus.

The Legend of Big Foot: Big Foot is one of the most mysterious creatures in recent history, with a large number of sightings furthering the idea that this giant ‘monster-like creature’ actually exists – and while the existence of Big Foot can’t be proven, that doesn’t mean slots can’t incorporate the theme – something Barcrest have done in ‘The Legend of Big Foot’. This exciting slot contains everything from randomly-triggered bonuses to a free spins bonus where you need to land additional scatter symbols to work your way up the free-spins ladder – and despite its young age, the game has already started to enjoy significant popularity with players.

Wizard of Oz: Emerald City: Wizard of Oz: Emerald City is one of SG Gaming’s most popular slots, and it’s been around for a number of years. Of course, following the tale of the Wizard of Oz, the slot benefits from an exciting base-game feature – where the Fairy Godmother can turn between 1 and 5 reels fully wild – and the main bonus round, where you can be awarded a cash prize, free-spins, or the Road To The Emerald City bonus.

Mighty Black Knight: Mighty Black Knight is another slot that comes from the Barcrest game development studio, and this game follows the popular 5-reel, 10-symbol-high format that we’ve seen in other slots such as Hercules. The game has an exciting free-spins feature where you can win up to 100 free-spins, and like with many of Barcrest’s slots, there’s a Big Bet option where you can pay to eliminate symbols from the reels, thus increasing your chances to win.

Zeus God of Thunder: Zeus God of Thunder is one of SG Gaming’s most recent releases, and it’s one of the game developer’s first games to feature a localized progressive jackpot; in fact, there’s a total of 5 jackpots to be found within the slot. Boasting an exciting bonus round, where you can win up to 100 free-spins, Zeus God of Thunder is medium volatility and comes from the Williams game development studio.

Glitter Gems: Legend of the Pharaohs is a 5-reel 20-payline slot from Barcrest, and this super high-variance slot is one of the developer’s most action-packed yet, featuring a rewarding bonus, Big Bet spins, and an exciting Pharaohs Bonus.

Spartacus: Call To Arms: One of SG Gaming’s most popular releases, Spartacus: Call To Arms – is one of the developer’s few portrait-styled games, and in their own words: “This portrait mode beauty makes full use of the vertical orientation with stunning artwork, game features and animations.” Benefiting from an exciting free-spins bonus – where any wins can be multiplied – the slot is both fun-to-play, and it offers fantastic win-potential, making for a perfect game for players new and old.

Wild Times: Wild Times is a video slot from Barcrest, and while the game may look simple, it actually packs a pretty decent punch, delivered in the form of an exciting free-spins bonus. The bonus centralizes around a wheel, which then determines the relevant multiplier attached alongside a win – and it’s possible to win thousands of times your stake if you get the correct set up!

As you can see, SG Gaming are unafraid to test the boundaries when it comes to their slots, and while they lack any casino table games or pokies, they do have a fantastic range of games, which can be enjoyed at a number of different online casinos.

Pros

Huge range of games.

Incredible displays of creativity within their slots - themes and game mechanics are intuitive and impressive.

New concepts are always being brought out.

Cons

Players in the UK are currently unable to use the ‘Autoplay’ function on WMS slots due to licensing complications.

The mobile-optimization of their games is poor.

Some of their games look very dated, and haven’t quite ‘caught up’ with the look and feel we see in most of today’s video slots.

Verdict

Casinomeister Rating

Casinomeister's Verdict

Scientific Games produces some of my favorite games – specifically those that were produced via WMS – i.e. Colossal Reels like Spartacus, Bruce Lee, Bierhaus, and then the land based Willy Wonka. That is a magnificent game. This is sold as a rock company with a terrific creative force behind it.
