Plans for 2017!

I aim to travel more in Europe this year (travel and work)
Put aside enough money each month for a deposit on a house in a year or two.
Most importantly I hope to make it to vegas....

I would hate and love going to Vegas! Would love the atmosphere, slots, tables, showtime etc but would hate to think of the amount of self control I would end up losing - thus resulting in losing loads of money as well!

I used to be a bugger for the odd little withdrawal reversal (where places had pp's) Nowt major but the odd £20 - £50 ish has gone floating back their way over the years.

Proud to say I've not reversed a penny now ("That's cos you don't withdraw anything Jon LMAO!") in 2 years +

The way I went about this is I convinced myself a bunch of blokes are sat round in the office and one shouts to another "Hey, Jon the twat has just reversed n blew £50 the prick" - "Looks like I meet my target for by bonus after all" - "What a knob"

Probs nearer the truth than I realise but has the desired effect to make me wait for every penny I originally cashed out :p ;)

Ha ha ha, great reasoning there and will probably be thinking that the next time I am contemplating a reversal!!

Good morning lovely people.

Item 1 + 2 on my list are completed
- worked 18 hrs last week
- spent only $175 on slots so far this month instead of the usual 2-3K

Item 3 - taking off now to Malaysia on my reconnaissance mission to find a nice place with pool, basketball yard and the likes so my son will be able to have fun should he stay with me for weekends or holidays.

Item 4 to follow soon :D

Wishing you all great day!

Good for you!! That is fantastic.. I hope you find a great place for you and your son! I am sure no matter what place you get your son will love it because he gets to spend time with his dad!

I know what you mean. I went to Macau last year and didn't spend too much but the atmosphere of the place was nothing like I imagine vegas to be. (I was also only there for 24 hours so couldn't do too much damage )

Been to Vegas quite a few times, always for work conferences bar 1 time when Vegas was a stop on an "Around the World" holiday. I can assure you that after 2-3 days that atmosphere turns you totally off. At any point you walk around on the ground floor you will have the casinos noise in your ears, you go outside in the evening and the crowds are pushing through the strip with constant badgering from hustlers for nightclubs, bars etc., taxi drivers trying to rip you off, even the buffets were too much with so much food piled up on display that you could feed a whole city but you knew well over 50% will go into the dumpster.

The one thing i really liked was the vast choice of shows, saw The Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil's "O" and "Mystere" and some more. Something I don't do every week or even month in my normal life but in Vegas you can pick and chose one for every evening as each big hotel has one running.

Thank you Lori..... I hope so too....don't know how much his mother has worked on him since i last saw him 18 months ago.

Got my visa application accepted in Penang this morning and if all goes well it will be ready for pick-up tomorrow at 2pm and then off to Johor Bahru. Got an estate agent waiting to show me some nice places which she said would fit my requirements. :)

You need loads of money if you are going to Vegas.

Saying that when I went I took $1,000 for playing, meals etc which is not enough but we did not spend much time where we went as we wanted to see a few different casino's. I only had to go to the bank machine once and that was like the last full day there.

As Harry said you really have to guard yourself and be aware of the badgering on the streets and actually people asking you for money right in the casino! Also downtown is pretty scary and that was middle of the week never mind what it would be like weekend!

Mind you West Virginia is scary.

I am getting discouraged already. I know it's only the 2nd week into the new year and it's slow time January and February, But really want to make changes.

I don't know about specifics but I find resolutions are often meant with good intentions but almost forced on us. Best thing with any changes is to not try too many at once, but rather tackle one small thing at a time.

Best we can hope to do is look at the overall year and hope that it went better than the previous one, and that you're being the best version of you possible!

/That'll be £25 :eek::oops:

Great thread!

I don't normally do these things either but my goals are very achievable, so all good.

1. Put both feet back in the industry and become more active in communities like CM.

2. Get back to running at least 10k per week.

3. See more movies.

That's all I'm committing too. I'll just take the rest as it comes.

Scott

Good afternoon lovely CM'ers. :)

Back from Johor Bahru with a new 3-months Thai Visa (been told its the last tourist visa i would get unless i take a break from TH of min. 6 months). And i think I found my next hangout. 1BDR, 70sqm, fully furnished and newly renovated, 1250 MYR = 260 Euro.

Move in sometime in March :)

That would be item 3 crossed of my list with only item 4 remaining. That will happen end of January as i will be having a good friend visiting Thailand and she wants to go to Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party. Should be a nice little holiday. :D

I stayed alive for another year. That feels fantastic! :D

I do have some plans for this year. Two trips are planned and the first are London 5 days in February. (I had hoped you would come Harry, but I guess you don't have the time now.)
Then in April it will be Norway one week. A tour with Hurtigrutten, a boat trip with my old mother. It will be cold but awesome :)

Like many others I want to get back in shape and loose a lot of weight. I have started and I won't stop! Here's to the new me

Besides that I will do all I can to be able to move back to my old town. I have a very special reason for that. 12 days ago I became a grandmother to this adorable little girl.
Meet Julia, the wondergirl ;)

Oh Sara...congratulations, she's is a cutie! :D Would say that is very much a reason to move.

Sorry for not making it to London. Difficult for me to leave the sunny warm weather and go to guaranteed 24hr rain or snow and cold. :D

If you made a photo negative of those images we might be somewhat resembling my surroundings.

It must be hell for you :eek2::cool:

Get a set-up like I have in my office - then you can kill 2 birds with one stone!
(I only walk on mine - my knees are too knackered for running!)

{Edit} Lets have a little fun quiz while were at it!
Who can name the rock group pictured behind my monitor and the mega-star singer to the right?
(Should be easy as both were massive in their day!)

I always strive to settle on a resolution by mid January.

While I do fall short of being a hoarder, I come from multi-generational pack rats. Not only do I have my own lifetime of things too good to throw away, I'm living in the house I grew up in, with stuff from my parents, my deceased brother and some things my daughter did not take with her a decade ago when she moved out. In fact, there's a few things from the 70s I didn't see fit to take when when I moved out, and some from my brother too.

So my resolution for 2017 is to throw out or give away something every single day, with some items perhaps being online yard sold.

But damn, I just know as soon as I get rid of it I'll have a need for it, or someone I know will. Happens every time.

Congratulations Sara - is this your first grandchild (that's special!)

My wife and I did a Hurtigruten cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes and back a year ago and it was fantastic in terms of service on the boat (we were on the Finnmarken), the cabin and of course the brilliant scenery - highly recommended.

Thanks, yes it's my first! She will have the most childish grandma ever. It will be so much fun :)

I've always wanted to do that trip. My mother is getting old and she just asked one day if I wanted to go with her. Of course I said and the next week she had decided the date and paid for it. I don't have a choice but to go :D

Congratulations to Sara and Harry.
Harry,I know your frustrations re the main carer of your child having so much control over the kids and you not being able to do a damn thing about it.It gets easier and the kids eventually make up their own minds about many things. The best thing to avoid IMO is not to give them any more information than they need to know and ensure that you can be the best parent that you can be to them.
My two girls where subject to a lot of poison talk about me from their mum. I simply told them that I disputed her version of things then never stressed them out by making them feel torn if it was avoidable. I'm sure your a great dad mate

OMG so much for a good year, I am going to have a breakdown. Ran into a pothole on the way home Thursday night, The cap and air valve cap went flying and bent my rim. Just now my mom ran right into the garage door along with the usual extremely stressful day's at work last week.

I know both events could have been worse as no damage to parents car and was able to get the garage door up high enough to get my car out and the garage was able to fix my rim and they are going to order a new cap for me so at worst it will only cost me $80 at worst. Their was traffic coming the other way so it could have been head on accident if I had panicked and swayed into the other lane.

Don't sweat the small stuff. No year will ever be perfect, it's the highs and not the lows that define a year IMO. Happy 2017, carry on, nothing to see here.

Thanks mate, did really good to read your lines. :notworthy

I hope of course that with the time things will change. In Singapore the law allows kids from the age of 9 years to decide themselves whether they want to see their 'missing' parent, nothing the main carer can do about it. He's 7 1/2 now, so a little more to go.

She has 2 kids from her first marriage, they haven't seen their father in over 10 years and they are meanwhile 16 and 20 years old. That's how badly she turned the kids against their father.

Wasted $10,000's in lawyer fees already and it hasn't got me anywhere as I was not married to her and the Singaporean law puts in that case the mother at a huge advantage, even more so if the father is a foreigner. Basically, i have no legal right to see my child, only if the mother agrees. And she can end that agreement unilaterally at any time.

Won't give up though! :)

I eventually resorted to stopping any kind of direct contact with their mum so nothing could be twisted to make me look bad. I made sure I paid full maintenance for a few years which I arranged to be paid directly from my wages until I changed employer. Then as it appeared I was getting along ok with their mum I chose to give her cash monthy in front of the girls. This giving cash went on for two years until my contract ended.
Guess what happened next? She contacted the Child Support Agency and told them I had gave her no money for two years. With no proof of payments I was royally shafted and as soon as I started a new contract the CSA demanded extortionate amounts out of my wages to pay off the " unpaid 2 years".

I am not having a pity party here. I'm cool with it because I was stupid. But my girls knew the truth
