Malaysian police continued a round of renewed anti-online gambling raids (see previous InfoPowa reports) over the weekend, arresting over two hundred people and seizing computers and other evidence.
A police spokesman in Kuching revealed to local media outlets that provincial and district Criminal Investigation Departments have intensified action against cyber gambling throughout the province of Sarawak.
CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said several raids were conducted in Batu Kawa and Miri over the weekend, in which a total of 28 computers used for online gambling were seized while seven people including the operator of the premises were arrested.
In another operation a police team conducted a raid in the early hours of the morning on premises in Senadin which resulted in the confiscation of 10 computers and the arrest of the venue operator.
A late night raid at Jalan Canna, Tabuan Jaya looking for online gambling activity resulted in the arrest on immigration offences of thirty three foreign women of Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino origin.
The biggest operations took place at Seri Alam, where police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Samad Salleh reported that a total of 11 workers and 101 gamblers were detained during police operations against cyber gambling outlets, and a large number of computers were seized, including 246 laptops and four tablets.
