Operators placed 54 percent more TV ads in 2015
British gambling companies spent substantially more in 2015 on television advertisements, boosting their exposure by over 46 percent compared with 2012 and spending GBP 118.5 million, according to Nielsen statistics published this week by The Guardian newspaper.
And it is anticipated that the upward trend will continue through 2016.
The lion's share of the total television adspend was contributed by bingo operators, who invested GBP 56.9 million – up year-on-year by 17 percent, with online casino operators increasing their spending by 54 percent to GBP 30.1 million.
Sports betting devoted GBP 26.7 million.
2016 is expected to produce even higher investment in advertising and has already topped GBP 51 million at the half-year point, suggesting a potential full-year television adspend of GBP 123 million… and that did not include the impact of the mid-year Euro 2016 football championship, which is expected to boost the numbers.
The Nielsen numbers show an industry that in the past three years has spent around GBP 456 million on television advertising in the UK… but that does not include the almost GBP 170 million spent by lottery companies.
