MICROGAMING LAUNCH PARTY FOR L.O.T.R.
3 September 2010
Government and commerce VIPs celebrate the
launch of a new flagship game
Senior Isle of Man government ministers and officials
joined with media representatives and business leaders
on the Isle of Man Thursday evening to celebrate the
release of the first in a series of three major new
games themed on the movie and fantasy book series "Lord
of the Rings."
On a perfect summer evening,
visitors were taken to the south of the island where a
stone-built seaside recreational facility had been
converted into a misty hobbit habitat showcasing the
outstanding graphical and cinematic development work
which has gone into what is arguably Microgaming's
biggest game yet.
Chief executive Roger Raatgever
and local non-executive director and leading IOM
businessman John Webster welcomed guests who included
key ministers from the government, along with gambling
regulators, business associates, reporters and managers
from the company's eighty- strong head office staff
based on the island.
Webster lauded the software
company as the sort of desirable enterprise that
contributed significantly to the island by putting down
deep roots and investing substantially in buildings,
infrastructure, staff and the island community.
Guests lined up to try out the new game, the first in a
planned series of three themed on the famous Lord of the
Rings fantasy works of HR Tolkein.
Microgaming
has invested nine months of extensive development work
in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,
which has been released as a multi-featured major slot
game with innovative elements such as cinematic
backdrops to the reel action.
Other games in the
series will include The Lord of the Rings: The Two
Towers; and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the
King.
Raatgever said this week: "The Lord of the
Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a hugely exciting
launch for Microgaming and we're thrilled to see the
game now live with our operators. This new game pushes
the limits of what can be done with online slots; the
look and feel alone is like an extension of the motion
picture, which is known and loved by fans everywhere."
The evening ended on a high note as the sun sank
into the sea outside the venue, with guests competing to
achieve the highest score on the game, and the top three
players nominating local charities for a generous GBP 10
000 donation from Microgaming.
Putting the Lord
of the Rings on a truly big screen, Microgaming used the
exterior of a large multi-storey building in downtown
Douglas this week to screen dynamic images from LOTR in
brilliant colour.

publishing a special interest feature on the global
operations of Microgaming next week.
