GAMBLING SHOWS HIGHEST INTERNET VISIT GAINS
3 September 2010
Latest com.Score numbers again illustrate the
popularity of internet gambling sites
The statistical measurement firm com.Score's July 2010
report on internet activity again illustrates the
universal popularity and interest in online gambling,
with gambling related websites among the highest gainers
compared with the month of June 2010.
Online
gambling sites attracted a total of 13.4 million unique
visitors during July.
Part of July's 11 percent
gains in unique visitors came from interest in the
annual World Series of Poker tournament, which drove
traffic to online gambling sites during the month,
especially once the main event had started.
"The
World Series of Poker tournament brought out the
competitive side of Americans in July, prompting
millions to visit online gambling sites to test their
card-playing skills," said Jeff Hackett, senior vice
president of comScore Media Metrix.
The main
event of WSOP took place in July, spurring interest from
more than 13.4 million internet users who visited an
online gambling site during the month, an 11 percent
increase versus June.
PokerStars ranked as the
category leader with 2.4 million visitors (up 8
percent), followed by FullTiltPoker with 2.3 million
visitors (up 14 percent), Kingolotto Network with 2
million visitors (up 31 percent), and UltimateBet.com
with 1 million visitors (up 33 percent).
In terms
of the highest gainers category, online gambling held a
slight edge on Retail Toys, Retail Mall and Travel
Information, which were all up at the top of the list on
11 percent.
In the Top 50 properties visited,
Google sites ranked as the number one property in July
with 178 million unique visitors, followed by Yahoo!
sites with 174 million and Microsoft sites with 165
million. Interestingly, the much-used Twitter site
ranked 50th!
In Ad Focus Ranking, the BrightRoll
Video Network led for July with a potential reach of 96
percent of Americans online, followed by SpotXchange
Video Ad Network with a 93-percent reach. YuMe Video Ad
Network climbed four spots to capture the number 3 spot
with an 89-percent reach.
