UK GAMBLING COMMISSION STOPS FOOTBALL SPONSOR'S LOGO
BEING DISPLAYED
18 September 2009
Sportsbook 777ball did not have correct
licence
The shirt sponsorship deal between Asia-facing online
sportsbook 777ball and Cardiff FC (see previous InfoPowa
report) ran into difficulties this week with the UK
Gambling Commission, which directed that the football
club could not display the sportsbook's logo.
The
reason for the ban is that 777ball needs a licence
enabling them to advertise their services within the
European Economic Area. They currently hold a Philippine
issued licence which does not comply with this
requirement.
A spokesman for 777ball said the
company was determined to act correctly and will be
applying for the relevant licence. A meeting had been
arranged with the Commission in order to explain the
company's position.
