ONLINE POKER NOT ON THE MASSACHUSETTS BALLOT
(Update)
4 September 2009
AG rules that poker proposal did not meet
legal requirements
The legal requirements regarding numbers supporting an
attempt to put online poker on the state ballot in
Massachusetts have been the downfall of an attempt by
the Poker Players Alliance and other interested parties
to take poker to the next level in the state.
Associated Press reports that Attorney General Martha
Coakley ruled Wednesday that the initiative didn't meet
the legal requirements to secure a place on next year's
ballot.
Also barred were two mortgage
modification proposals and a question requiring that a
certain percentage of the state budget go to local aid.
Dozens of other questions - including a proposal to
eliminate tolls and several questions to roll back the
state income tax, were approved and must now garner the
signatures of 66 593 Massachusetts voters before
December 2nd.
