WSOP EUROPE EVENT 1 FALLS TO HOUGAARD
26 September 2008
GBP144 218 top prize for Danish pro
Event 1 of the World Series of Poker Europe has come and
gone, leaving Danish pro Jesper Hougaard the victor and
holder of a gold bracelet and a useful GBP144 218 in
cash.
Hougaard was the low man in chip stacks when the final
table started out, but with skilled and determined play
he truimphed against the likes of US ace Adam Junglen,
recent APPT Macau Main Event champion Yevgeniy
Timoshenko and an overall entry field that touched 410
players.
The heads up was decided when Timoshenko was eliminated
by Hougaard, who entered the final phase of the game
with a 5 to 1 chip advantage against his sole remaining
opponent Fuad Serhan. Five hands later Hougaard
eliminated Serhan, whose second place winnings were a
creditable GBP 89 175.
Hougaard now holds a record as the first player to win
WSOP bracelets in both the USA and European editions of
the poker extravaganza in the same year.
