FAMILIAR NAME IN NEW POKER SITE MANAGEMENT
5 September 2008
Former Carmen Media and BetonSports director
resurfaces
The Income Access affiliate program's blog saw a
familiar industry name resurfacing this week in
reportage on a new Playsafe Holdings AS brand, Million
Dollar Poker Club.com.
Clive Archer, a 50-something industry veteran who has
previously worked for Carmen Media and was COO of the
now defunct BetonSports, is quoted as the new Chief
Operating Officer of Action Poker Network, which
Norwegian-listed Playsafe acquired from LVFH for $2.35
million back in 2006 (see previous InfoPowa reports).
Archer was informing affiliates and players about
Million Dollar Poker Club's generous introductory deals
- 100 percent commissions for 100 affiliates for the
next six months, and offers of 300 percent on signup
deposits by players. "We expect we will pay out as much
as $10 million dollars in affiliate fees in the first 6
months of this program," he boasted.
"We had a choice to either spend it in paid advertising
or pay for performance and go with the best affiliates
in the industry, people we know and respect, many of
which are already assisting us in our growth," Archer
continued. "This decision led us to a series of simple
decisions, build the best site by offering players the
opportunity to Win a Million every week for free, start
by tripling their first deposit and give 100 affiliates
100 percent net commission for six months.
"Affiliates simply support two of our brands, and we
guarantee 100 of them 100 percent commission to April 1
2009. The top fifty win automatically and the remainder
of them go into a draw overseen by CAP where another
fifty winners will be drawn”.
Archer joined BetonSports in April 2005 as marketing and
operations director under CEO David Carruthers when
Costa Rica-based BetonSports was riding high, bringing
over 28 years of business and management experience,
most recently as Business Development Director, Carmen
Media Group Ltd, to the party. Archer was also involved
with marketing company Interactive Circle Limited and
Stake and Chips Limited.
He was part of the board of directors at BetonSports
when Department of Justice activities saw the arrest of
its CEO and the ultimate demise of the company. Other
directors were Christopher Calloway, Clive Parritt in
the chair, Lord Glentoran, David Carruthers, Richard
Creed (now CEO of Leisure and Gaming plc) and Craig
Lapsley.
Their response to the Department of Justice crisis and
its player fall-out was the subject of much criticism
through 2006-2007, and Archer appeared to become the
main spokesman for the company in the months leading up
to its ultimate liquidation.
