SEALAND ONLINE CASINO TO BENEFIT FROM RUSSIAN
INVESTMENT?
14 September 2007
Satellite communications venture will boost
capability
Russian investors are reported to be interested in
funding the launch of a new communications satellite
that could offer internationally unrestricted Internet
communication to the quaint, privately owned man-made
island "Sealand" and the Sealand Casino.com operated by
the owner, Paddy Roy Bates.
Sealand (see previous InfoPowa reports) is an old WW2
steel and concrete military fortress in the North Sea
off the coast of Great Britain.
VNUnet reports that Sealand has received a multi-million
dollar investment offer from the Russians to fund the
launch, providing the self-proclaimed 'independent
state' with "....worldwide internet freedom and
internationally unrestricted internet broadcasting."
Sealand would be able resume the launch of Sealand
Casino.com, the report continues, noting that this had
been delayed by political and legal problems "....as it
would have been hosted in a country with a restrictive
treaty regarding online gambling."
The Russian venture group's proposals apparently include
installing new high-capacity servers.
In what appears to be a tongue-in-cheek conclusion to
the report, a "Sealand resident" is quoted as claiming
that the Sealand satellite will be "....the greatest
revolution since the dawn of the internet."
