BETFAIR SUES FORMER IRISH BOSS
14 September 2007
Reported Euro 94 000 judgement against Raymond
Farrell to be challenged
Sporting Exchange, the holding company for online
gambling group Betfair.com has successfully sued the
group's former head of Irish operations, Raymond Farrell
reports the The Sunday Business Post.
On August 28 the High Court in London awarded a Euro 94
000 judgement to the Betfair parent company in its issue
with Farrell, although it is understood he is to
challenge the finding. Farrell headed Betfair’s Irish
operations between 2002 and 2004.
It is not clear what the nature of the litigation is,
but it appears to revolve around claims of money owed,
which Farrell contests. A Betfair spokesman alleged that
part of Farrell’s job entailed collecting money on
behalf of the company, and that certain sums had not
been handed over when he left the business.
The spokesman revealed that the company intended to
pursue the collection of the money.
Farrell was recruited by the company in 2002 to help it
increase its Irish racing portfolio and to establish
contacts in the Irish betting industry.
Speaking to The Sunday Business Post last week, Farrell
said he increased the company’s sales in Ireland from
Euro 600 000 a month to more than Euro 5 million a
month.
