NEW CHAIRPERSON FOR ISLE OF MAN GAMBLING COMMISSION
7 September 2007
Manx advocate takes over from Jane O'Rourke
The Gambling Supervision Commission of the Isle of Man
has a new chairperson following the appointment this
week of Manx solicitor and advocate Claire Milne.
Announcing the appointment the island's Chief Minister
said that Milne has a background in intellectual
property, IT Law and data protection, including e-money,
e-commerce and e-gaming. She replaces outgoing
chairperson, Jane O’Rourke.
A local advocate, Jerry Carter, has also been appointed
a member of the Commission.
“The recent placing of the Isle of Man on the United
Kingdom “white list”, which allows Isle of Man based
e-Gaming companies to market in the UK, has highlighted
the importance of the e-Gaming sector to the Isle of Man
economy," the Chief Minister said.
"The regulator of the sector, that is the Gambling
Supervision Commission, has an important and high
profile role to undertake in ensuring that the sector is
effectively regulated. I am therefore delighted to be
able to announce that we have been successful in
appointing such high calibre individuals.”
