TEXAS DOLLY EMBARRASSED BY HELLMUTH'S GRAND
ENTRANCES
2 October 2009
Poker legend would sometimes like to be
Brutus to Hellmuth's Caesar!
One of international poker's living legends, Doyle
'Texas Dolly' Brunson has spoken out about colleague
Phil Hellmuth's penchant for grand entrances designed to
garner maximum publicity at major tournaments like the
World Series of Poker.
In his latest stunt (see
previous InfoPowa report) Hellmuth arrived at the World
Series of Poker Europe main event in London's Leicester
Square dressed as a Roman emperor and riding in a
chariot surrounding by dancing girls and Roman
legionaries. He staged a similar publicity stunt at the
World Series of Poker in Las Vegas earlier this year. In
both compeitions he was eliminated before reaching the
final table.
Writing in his online blog this
week, Brunson says: "I’ve always liked Phil Helmuth and
have defended his tantrums because that is Phil being
Phil, but these grand entrances he makes are too much!
"He came to my table dressed as Julius Caesar
along with trumpets and scantily clad girls. It
embarrassed me just being there. I would have liked to
have applied for the role of Brutus. I am a poker purist
and stuff like that detracts too much from what a great
game poker is."
Ouch!
