OLLIE WINS WPT BORGATA OPEN
2 October 2009
Best of 1 018
Big money attracts big players, and that was certainly
in evidence at the World Poker Tour Borgata Open this
week when 1 018 entrants signed up to compete for a main
prize of $925 514.
The televised tournament
finally came down to a six man final table tussle that
involved Oliver Busquet in the chip lead, followed by
Jeremy Brown, Ivan Mamuzic, Yanick Brodeur, Keith
Crowder and Kenny Nguyen, all of whom eventually went
home with six-figure payouts.
Busquet was to hold
on to his chip lead for much of the action despite some
strong challenges and changes during final table play,
mainly against Jeremy Brown, who demolished much of the
opposition.
It all ended in a tense and
competitive 153 hand heads up facing Jeremy Brown, who
at that stage had taken a 3 to 1 chip dominance into the
game, and at one stage had built on that to a
significant degree. But what at one point looked like a
Brown win for sure turned around as Busquet's aggressive
play won several key hands and he staged an impressive
comeback to finally triumph and collect the $925 514
first prize and the title.
Brown took home a
well earned $453 519 second prize.
