WHAT IS PLAYERATI?
31 October 2008
And who is behind this Web 2.0 fundraising tool?
A new online gambling concept on a website powered by
Microgaming and offering online lottery and casino
action is being increasingly discussed within the
industry, although there is as yet no indication as to
what organisation is behind it.
The website at Playerati.com reveals that the Flash
technology gambling software is still in Beta format,
albeit v. 2.0, and that the Playerati concept allows
webmasters and players alike to raise money for a
charity of choice as they play. The concept is designed
to empower consumers to affect change and create wealth
risk-free. Information on the website assures visitors
that there is no risk of losing money because, as a
host, those participating don’t put any money in.
And whether it’s a casino or lottery, Playerati manages
all pay-outs, including the money allocated to the
selected charity.
"Our web 2.0 fundraising tool uses the power of social
networks to promote an open lottery or casino around the
world within minutes," the website informs visitors,
inviting them to try the site out and "make money for
yourself and for charity at the same time."
Anyone, ranging from the world’s leading entrepreneurs
and global brands to tech-savvy students looking to
finance their studies can now own, set up and launch
their own personalised lottery or casino, according to
the "About Us" information on the site, which carries a
Kahnawake Gaming Commission licence.
Using Playerati, a percentage of each win goes to a
charity chosen by the player, whilst the host takes a
cut of total winnings - which could reach several
millions.
Perhaps appropriately, "Playerati" translates as "Play
Wisely" and the website carries the Gamcare logo for
responsible gambling.
