Cyber cafes raided for conducting online gambling
Police in Kuantan, state capital of Pahang, the
largest state in Peninsula Malaya report the arrest of
12 men and the confiscation of eight computers following
a series of anti-online gambling raids conducted over
the past week.
Those arrested include Internet cafe owners and
customers who gambled online whilst on the premises.
Kuantan police chief ASP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff told
reporters in a media briefing: "The raids at Air Putih,
Jalan Beserah and Gebeng revealed that the cyber cafes
had been used as a front for online gambling. The
premises owners had abused the operating licences given
[for Internet cafe operations]."
The 12 accuseds are all in their twenties and thirties
and have been detained under Section 4 (1) B of the
Common Gaming House Act 1953, news agency Bernama
reports.
