SPANISH COPS BUST AFFILIATE POKERHEADS
3 October 2008
An exciting way to end a business conference
Reports from the Spanish media and online gambling
websites based in that country claim that Spanish police
in the form of the Mossos d'Esquadra unexpectedly turned
up at a Barcelona hotel where delegates to an online
gambling marketing affiliate conference were enjoying an
informal free roll poker tournament over the weekend.
The reports suggest that the Spanish law enforcers shut
down the tournament and "confiscated gambling equipment"
which they removed from the venue at the smart Hotel
Princesa Sofia in the coastal city of Barcelona. The
conference organisers, Casino Affiliate Programs have
yet to issue a statement, but it appears that no one was
arrested. Although the raid was being discussed on CAP
forums, no further details have yet emerged.
Spanish sources report that some 42 players were
participating in the tournament, having previously
qualified in online competitions.
The free roll nature of the tournament was pointed out
to the police, but apparently to no avail.
