Paddy Power reverses out of IBA
According to an ATE news report, the major land and
online Irish betting group Paddy Power has departed the
Irish Bookmakers Association due to what the IBA calls
"irreconcilable differences."
Sharon Byrne, Chair of the IBA, expressed regret at the
Paddy Power decision and said differences on key
objectives contained in the IBA's budget submission –
including funding for the horse racing industry,
repatriation and measures needed to bolster the future
of smaller bookmakers – had caused the split.
The IBA membership comprises nearly three quarters of
the betting shops in Ireland.
