NOW TOWNSEND HAMMERS ISILDUR1 (Update)
27 November 2009
Brit takes mystery ace for $1.1 million
It's a series of clashes between online poker
titans that has
reenergised interest in Internet high stakes poker, and
it appeas to gain rather than lose intensity despite the
huge stakes involved - we're talking the NHLE and PLO
matches being played out on the Internet nosebleed
tables between mystery Swede Isildur1 - who just keeps
coming back for more - and names like Ivey, Antonius,
Dwan, South and now Townsend.
Brit and Full Tilt
pro Brian Townsend is the latest to risk a major
bankroll against the unknown Swedish player, and he
managed to emerge victorious and $1.1 million wealthier
after a murderous thousand hand $200/$400 Pot-Limit
Omaha midweek session.
The match lacked the
massive swings in fortunes experienced in previous
confrontations, with Townsend playing a tight,
disciplined strategy that paid off across a series of
sub-$300 000 pots, none of which reached record breaking
heights.
Earlier, the Swede had hammered the
hapless French pro David Benyamine for $268 000 on the
$200/$400 PLO tables, filling in the spare time with
some $500/$1 000 NLHE action against Phil Ivey...who
lost another $85 000 over the 200 hands.
The
unfortunate Tom Dwan was back for yet another crack at
the Swede, and after Townsend retired with his spoils,
Isilidur1was happy to oblige. The two got it on in
around 545 hands of $300/$600 PLO which saw Isildur1
take Dwan for another $175 000.
Isildur1 finally
called it a day after a clash on the $500/$1 000 PLO
tables with Ilari Sahamies, where his good fairy failed
and he went down $267 000.
Due mainly to his
losing streak against Townsend, the mysterious Swede's
results for this session as recorded by MarketPulse
showed a loss of some $976 000.
