BATTLING THE BOTS

UK company says it has a software answer to
robot gamblers
A new start-up company in Cambridge, UK has developed
software which it claims can protect online gamblers
from fraud.
The software is a product of
Featurespace, a company formed in 2005 by members of the
engineering department at Cambridge University. The
company specialises in developing technology that uses
behavioural analysis to protect online casinos and stock
trading websites from fraud.
In its latest deals,
Featurespace is providing its anti-bot solution to
King.com and to the online betting giant Betfair.com. A
spokesman says that the fifteen man company is also
negotiating agreements with a number of other online
gambling and finance firms.
The spokesman said
that behavioural analysis software uses statistics to
determine when a pattern of behaviour is either normal
or abnormal, and whether it is either desirable or
undesirable. This analysis can detect when fraud is
taking place; when gambling patterns are inappropriate;
and whether it is a human being or a computer bot that
is doing the gambling.
