South African businessman wins two
multi-million lottery jackpots
The conventional wisdom is that winning a major lottery
jackpot is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but a South
African businessman has just proved that it can be a
repeat performance.
The 34-year-old married
punter won SA Rands 30 million in South Africa's newly
introduced Powerball lottery this week...seven years on
from winning SA Rands 11 million in the Tatta Ma Chance
lottery
SA Lottery officials said that the
winner, who wishes to remain anonymous - made his own
way to the lottery offices in Johannesburg having
checked his R7 random choice ticket at a local Limpopo
province store, where he found that he had beaten
'galactic odds' to scoop the top prize twice.
Statistics showed he beat odds of 14 million to one to
scoop his first jackpot, and 24 million to one to claim
the second. The big winner indicated that he spends only
SA Rands 100 a month on tickets.
Officials said
he had indicated he would invest most of the windfall
for the future of his four children, but also hoped to
spend some on establishing a charity to help Africa's
poor.
A lottery spokeswoman said: "We offered to
pick him up, but he decided to drive to our
headquarters. We couldn't believe how calm he was. He
gave the impression of a man who has money. We were
surprised to hear he only spends 100 rand a month on the
lottery.'
