WORLD SERIES OF POKER FINAL TABLE THIS WEEKEND
14 November 2008
Standby for plenty of poker action as the final 9
players assemble in Las Vegas
Sunday November 9th sees a resumption of the World
Series of Poker spectacular, with the start of final
table action delayed since July to extract maximum
television impact for ESPN. The nine surviving players
from a field of thousands that were gradually whittled
away in seven days of hectic poker have arrived in Las
Vegas and will assemble Sunday at the Rio for the grand
finale.
The massive prize pool flows from the big buy-in for the
event - everyone in the entry field either paid $10 000
for the experience, or was sponsored for a similar
amount.
At stake is the glory of a WSOP Main Event gold bracelet
and a winner's purse worth at least $9.12 million, and
every member that takes a seat at the intensively
televised table should walk away with a seven figure
paycheck on this 40th anniversary of the championship.
While last year's winner Jerry Yang may be in Vegas as a
spectator, he did not make this year's final table.
With the traditional "Shuffle and Deal" call now only
hours away, this is what the final table looks like in
order of chip count:
* Dennis Phillips - 26 295 000
* Ivan Demidov - 24 400 000
* Scott Montgomery - 19 690 000
* Peter Eastgate - 18 375 000
* Ylon Schwartz - 12 525 000
* Darus Suharto - 12 520 000
* David Rheem - 10 230 000
* Craig Marquis - 10 210 000
* Kelly Kim - 2 620 000
The Main Event final will be played until only two
players remain seated on November 9th. The Heads Up
portion of the Main Event will be played the following
day, November 10th and it is expected that ESPN will be
airing an edited version of World Series of Poker Main
Event final table on Tuesday, November 11th.
