SUNDAY TOURNEYS AGAIN DELIVER BIG PRIZES
7 November 2008
Online poker players turn out in force
The big online poker tournaments last Sunday once
again illustrated the continued keen interest in playing
the game on the Internet, with several winning players
taking home six figure payments.
The regular industry biggie - the PokerStars Sunday
Million - soared past its guaranteed prize-pool level of
$1.5 million as 7 836 players bought in, raising the
prize pool to $1 567 200. There was plenty of bold, big
money betting before four survivors agreed on a four way
chop that would guarantee each a six-figure payday, with
the winner taking an extra $30 000.
With the chop agreed, play resumed until the final two
players, "Metzmagny" and "ldgii" with the former player
holding a 2 to 1 chip advantage which he exploited to
win the game and collect $147 822. As a result of the
four-way chop Idgii, h2oace and jiacstrap all received
six-figure paychecks of $104 841, $105 771 and $122 067
respectively.
Still at PokerStars, 4 004 hopefuls paid the $200+15
buy-in for the $750 000 guaranteed Sunday Warm-Up,
taking the prize pool to $800 000. "124poker" won the
tourney and collected $104 104.
Over at Full Tilt Poker.com the $750 000 guaranteed
pulled in 3 637 players and was won by "sistabossen,"
who pocketed $132 787 and change.
