NEW CHIEF FOR NORSKE TIPPING GAMBLING MONOPOLY

Former veterinary expert and hospital executive appointed after extensive search

 

The state gambling monopoly in Norway, Norske Tipping AS, will have a new and permanent Chief Executive Officer by the beginning of 2009. Former veterinary expert and hospital administrator Torbjørn Almlid (58) has been appointed to the post, according to an announcement from the company. He replaces acting CEO Axel Krogvig, who has been in charge since the departure of Reidar Nordby late last year (see previous InfoPowa report).

Almlid is currently managing director at The Innlandet Hospital Trust. Originally from Trøndelag in Norway, he is a veterinarian and researcher by profession and holds a doctoral degree in genetics. He was CEO of Norsvin for 10 years and managing director of BioInn for one year before entering the hospital care industry in 1999, when he was appointed executive director of the Feast Clinic AS. Later, he was vice president for Health East, before joining Innlandet as executive director in 2003. He will take up his Norske Tipping position on January 1st 2009.

“Torbjørn Almlid has all the qualifications necessary to successfully lead Norsk Tipping through the challenges we will doubtless face in the years ahead,” said Sigbjørn Johnsen, Norsk Tipping’s chairman of the board. He is an excellent leader and has the ability to create space for development and growth within the framework in which the company operates.”

Innlandet chairman Peder Olsen said that the Trust deeply regretted Almlid's departure, and that he had been a first class leader who had made important contributions to the Trust's development

Almlid said that he looked forward to the challenges and opportunities that his new job with Norske Tipping promised. The company had good products, a competent staff and made major contributions to society in Norway, all of which augered well for the future. He stressed the importance of achieving the balance between commercial success and social responsibility on which the company was founded and had since built a solid reputation.
