BARCLAYS STAYING THE DISTANCE WITH ONLINE GAMBLING
29 May 2009
RBS may be dropping the business, but its
rival will profit
Confirmed reports last week that the Royal Bank of
Scotland was to eschew online gambling business in
regard to the Dutch and Swiss gambling markets have
presented an opportunity for its chief rival Barclays
group...and it looks as if the enterprising banker will
exploit it to the full.
Answering queries from
eGaming Review, a senior Barclays source confirmed that
the banking group has no problems with Dutch or Swiss
online gambling transactions and said: “We are still
processing online gaming transactions and have not
changed our policy towards the industry.”
EGR
reports that Barclays is RBS International’s main rival
for the business of gambling companies licensed in the
offshore jurisdictions of Alderney, the Isle of Man and
Gibraltar with exposure to the Dutch and Swiss markets.
