TOTE IRELAND AND FRENCH MONOPOLY TO PARTNER

Much manoeuvring as French companies position
themselves for a new gambling era
The French state horseracing monopoly Pari Mutuel Urbain
(PMU) is the latest French operation to position itself
for the liberalisation of French gambling early in 2010,
signing an agreement this week with Tote Ireland which
will allow account holders to bet into live pools on
French racing.
The deal could have positive
implications for the international online betting
exchange Betfair, which inked a deal with Tote Ireland
last August (see previous InfoPowa report) making Irish
Tote pool betting, traditionally only available
track-side at Irish race courses, available to Betfair’s
2.1 million international customers.
Bets will be
taken via the Tote Ireland website and call centre, as
well as at Irish racecourses.
“PMU have been
betting into our pools for three years now and this is a
great opportunity for Tote punters to gain access to the
PMU pools," said Tote Ireland chief executive Alexis
Murphy. "The coverage of French racing continues to
improve on both At the Races and Racing UK and should
further boost interest in this offering.”
