Pressure continues in bid the control illegal
gambling
Malaysian police detained 12 people and seized 45
computers in several raids on cybercafes in an operation
targeting illegal online gambling over the past week,
reports the Bernama news service.

Tengah police chief ACP Mohd Shah Hussin Shah said the
operation also led to the seizure of liquor and
cigarettes smuggled from a neighbouring country.
The police spokesman said that said the suspects
arrested were aged 20 to 67 and would be investigated
under Section 4B(a), Common Gaming House Act 1953 for
operating gambling activities via the internet.
If convicted, the 12 suspects could be fined up to RM100
000 and jailed a maximum five years.
