74 years old and sharper than ever, Doyle
shows them how
Online and land poker legend Doyle 'Texas Dolly' Brunson
(74) showed younger aces his considerable talent over
the weekend playing against top poker pros in the mixed
games at Bobby's Room at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Named after Bobby Baldwin, CEO of Mirage Resorts and
a world champion poker player himself, the room has seen
some mighty poker clashes and Brunson's big win was no
exception.
Discussing his $2 million profit over
the weekend on his Internet blog, Brunson wrote that he
had decided to hit the cash games instead of the World
Poker Tour $25 000 Championship event, as it turned out
a wise move in view of his subsequent success. As he
pointed out, he would have needed to actually win the
tournament to equal the profits from his cash game wins
over the same period.
During his foray into the
cash games, Texas Dolly successfully clashed with the
formidable international poker star Phil Ivey in an
amusing episode he describes as Doyle Sez, which
involved the poker veteran choosing the game to be
played. Brunson went for six card Razz and beat his
widely experienced opponent, commenting "I’ve got some
more games for him if he wants to continue!
