SEMINARS ON FRENCH ONLINE GAMING LEGALISATION ANNOUNCED (Update)

French politicians involved in drafting regulations to host four discussion opportunities
 

The legalisation of online gambling in France moves up a gear next (May 2009) month with the commencement of a series of seminars at which the politicians responsible for the draft regulations will be available for discussion.

Starting on May 5th is an examination of the French gaming model and its adaptation to the online milieu and EU law, which will be hosted by French National Assembly member Jacques Myard. The schedule then moves to May 11th, where a second seminar will consider the product offerings available to French online players. This will be hosted by Senator and President of the Commission on Social Affairs, Nicolas About, and the discussion will embrace state monopolies, competition and tax rates.

On May 19th the third seminar will be chaired by MPs Marc Francina and Etienne Blanc, with Senators François Trucy and Jean-François Lamour, rapporteurs of the draft regulation to the Senate and National Assembly, also on hand. This session will focus on the potential of the French market, the possible impact on land venues of legalised online gambling and the implications of mobile gambling.

The seminar series will be completed on May 28th, when Antoine Cheron, who holds a doctorate in intellectual property and is a member of the Paris and Brussels bars, will host interested parties in a discussion on intellectual property and regulatory enforcement issues.

Beefing up the political teams for each event will be the French budget minister Eric Woerth, supported by industry professionals in the operations, legal and marketing fields.
