COURT DATE SET FOR $14.75 MILL VEGAS CASINO CASE
(Update)
1 May 2009
52-year-old philanthropist says he is not
guilty
A Las Vegas case filed in February against 52-year-old
retired Omaha businessman and philanthropist Terry
Watanabe will be heard on May 13 following a Grand Jury
indictment this week on two counts of theft and two
counts of bad cheques.
The case involves $14.75
million which two Las Vegas land casinos claim is owed
by Watanabe in respect of gambling debts (see previous
InfoPowa report). Watanabe's legal representative has
advised that his client, who is currently free on $1.5
million bail, will contest the charges.
Defense
lawyer David Chesnoff says Watanabe has been "an
honorable guest of Nevada casinos" and never intended to
commit any wrongdoing.
